What's Older at the Steiner Archive

There are a lot of changes going on around the Steiner Archive: new formats, new links, additional features. Sometimes it's hard to find out just what is going on! Well, here is what you've been looking for — a list of the changes, additions, and coming attractions that occured at the Archive in our first 7 years on the 'Net — 1998 and before. In this period, we did not keep track of all the changes, and most of these items are not dated at all!

Some Older Changes...

  1. COTS Discussion Forum (as of 12/01/1998)
In a new "Forum" format, and rarin' to go, we present a new discussion forum for those wishing to express their feelings on the various Calendar of the Soul verses.
  2. Mayflower Books
The Mayflower Book Shop, owned by Robert Thibodeau, now has a contact point at the Archive. Robert may have the widest selection of Steiner material in the world: not only the very new, but first editions, the old and rare, original translations, related material - tons o' stuff! He'll be glad to answer your questions, too.
  3. Book Finders
Are you just itchin' to read one of Steiner's books, but it's out-of-print? Use the Book Finders link on the left-side menu.
  4. Selected Steiner Articles/Essays
There is a new section at the Archive: Selected Rudolf Steiner Articles and Essays. There are only a couple of essays there now, but they will be coming. It follows the same format as the Lectures section.
  5. The Philosophy of Freedom
Guess which two long-missing chapters have finally been added? Why it's Chapters 9 and 13!! Take a look.
  6. Steiner Archive Bookstore
In association with, the world's largest bookstore, we present this new feature. Many users have asked where they can purchase Steiner's books, and now we can tell them "right here!"
  7. Just added to the Lectures section:
Lectures Section. Many new lectures have been added, and there are more to come. Anything marked *New* is where to start.
  8. Just added to the Books section:
Mysticism at the Dawn of the Modern Age - One of Steiner's "basic reading" books.
  9. The Anthroposophical Society in America is making their Directory available on-line! Be the first in your neighborhood to see how it works. It is a database application allowing users to search and query the directory's many entries.
  10. We are in the process of changing the look and feel of the Archive ! We have incorporated a new document server with some special features we will take advantage of. The changes will be subtle, and mostly behind the scenes (so to speak), but they are there. Let us know what you think.
  11. The Home Page for the Steiner Archive got too large. So we streamlined it! Most of the items were put on sub-ordinate pages, and the Home Page looks like a menu with icons. Nothing that was already there was lost -- just relocated. We have also added a new Waldorf Education area.
  12. Our name changed! Since we are an electronic Library, we will use the 'e.Lib' nomenclature instead of 'E-Lib'. Besides, it's easier to type! Look for it around the Web.
  13. We are gradually moving toward using our new HTTP server software. Although the old Gopher/HTTP server is still operational, we hope everyone weans themselves from using it -- the new stuff is much better! You'll find lots of format changes and extra features if you access us with the following URL: "".

The *New* stuff...

Here are some highlights...
. Fine Art Presentations (updated Dec 06, 1998)
Now, over 400 artists/categories, and 4100 images of fine art available for your perusal. There will be updates at least every week if not more often. As the new scans come in from Usenet, we will make them available on the Archive.
. A Statement of Purpose and Intent.
Why we're here, and what we feel is our offering and purpose. It's lengthy, but well worth the read.
. Die Philosophie der Freiheit
The original work in German. This is still undergoing change. We will be hyperlinking this document as time permits.
. The Philosophy of Spiritual Activity
For the years 1922 - 1963, Steiner's The Philosophy of Freedom was published in English under the title: The Philosophy of Spiritual Activity. The POSA translation was added to the original German and TPOF translations a while ago.
